It’s voting day in my neck of the woods (and probably in yours, also), which gives me the perfect opportunity to break out this ceditra entry (ceditra, for those who need a refresher, is the creation of art through random means) from February 26, 2010:

From Boyd’s Curiosity Shop by L.M. Boyd (1986)
Q: How long overall has this country been run by Presidents who weren’t actually elected to be President?
A: 23 years, 324 days
Who would want to be President?
Apparently, Ophelia does.
During one of our dinner conversations, she said she would like to be President. She says, and she is only five at this time, that she would like to be the first female President. My wife replies that she hopes there will have already been a woman President by the time Ophelia is eligible in thirty years.
Hmmm…I wonder if my wife would feel the same way if that ground-breaking (or is “ceiling-shattering” the better term) woman had been Hillary Clinton | Sarah Palin.
Of course if Ophelia became President, she most likely would be the first Jewish President – and that certainly would be quite the first. I can only imagine the amount of flak she would receive from conservative talkers and bloggers about the lighting of the National Menorah on the Ellipse or the Purim Fesitval held on the South Lawn and how these would be attacks on Christmas and Easter.
Then again, maybe there will be a Jewish President before Ophelia. The country came close in 2000 when Joseph Lieberman, a Senator from Connecticut, was the vice-presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket with Al Gore (and lost). The pair did have a great slogan – “Working For You 24/6”.
Get it? Because as a Jew observing the Sabbath, Lieberman couldn’t work from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
Of course for Ophelia to become Chief Executive, she would have to become involved in politics and I most definitely cannot see my little cherub-of-a-sweetheart becoming involved in anything as despicable and slimy as politics. Perhaps the level of vileness will have changed in the three decades between now and when she can actually for the highest office in the land, but given the current trend lines, I doubt it.
