Over the year that was 2010, I struggled with my weight. I currently sit at 205.5 pounds and I have been trying for over a year to slim down to 189. That number is my target because according to an on-line body mass index (BMI) calculator, that amount of poundage would classify me as “normal weight” given my height of 6-feet 1-inch.
Now, courtesy of this recent news item, I can take some solace in the fact that while I may not hit my target of being a normal weight, I will be more likely to survive an auto accident as this line from the story states that folks, like me, who are slightly overweight:
…seemed to lower the odds for death in a severe crash: these drivers were actually less likely to die than either underweight or normal-weight drivers, according to researchers at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Now pass me that double scoop of ice cream…and be sure to buckle up.
