I am so far off the cutting edge that I still have an AOL email address.
Yes, feel free to pity or mock me.
With that above being said, that doesn’t mean I’m not trying to catch up.
My latest attempt to be “on the ball”, “in the know”, and other out-of-date phrases for “being hip” (including that one) was to try and create a meme.
A meme, for those even less in the know that I am, is “an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture” and was coined by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene.
One of the aspects of a meme is that, like living organisms, it can mutate and adapt over time. The concept of the “meme” itself has mutated. Whereas back in the ’70s and ’80s, the meme was seen as an item that transmitted cultural ideas, the definition of the meme now includes viral videos and standardized images that people attach text to.
My attempt honors Mr. Dawkins and his addition to the English language.
This incredible attempt at humor could be found at imgur.com, but you have to look really hard for it.
