And now the conclusion of my mini-project to follow the two NASCAR drivers this season who have a connection to the number 36.

First off, congratulations to Tony Stewart for winning this year’s Sprint Cup in an exciting conclusion to the Chase.

As for my project, I had been following Dave Blaney (who drives the Number 36 car) and Jeff Burton (who came in 36th place at NASCAR’s inaugural race, Daytona).

To put it mildly, it was never close.

With all thirty-six (hey, there that’s number again) races complete, Jeff Burton finished the season with 935 points and ended the year in 20th place. Dave Blaney, in the 2011 season, compiled 508 points and finished in 32nd place.

Well, that was fun…see you next year in Daytona for the start of the next exciting NASCAR season.

It’s been awhile since I’ve checked in with the two drivers I have been following this NASCAR season: Dave Blaney and Jeff Burton.

Just to recap, I have been following this pair of drivers because they have connection with the number 36. Dave Blaney drivers the #36 car and Jeff Burton came in 36th place at NASCAR’s season-starting race, the Daytona 500.

We’re twenty-seven races into the season and this week saw the first race of the ten-part Chase.

At Chicago on Monday, Jeff Burton finished in 15th place and earned himself 29 more points. This gives him a season total of 647 points and puts him in 24th place overall in the standings. Since Burton was not in the Top 12, he is out of the running for this year’s Sprint Cup.

Dave Blaney finished 33rd in Chicago and so he picked up only 11 points. He is in 32nd overall with 360 (hey…that’s 36 times 10!) points.

Next up, Loudon.

It’s been some time since I’ve updated the results of the two NASCAR drivers that I have been following since February.

Both drivers have a connection with the number 36. Dave Blaney drives the Number 36 car and Jeff Burton came in 36th place after NASCAR’s inaugural race at Daytona.

Things don’t look so good for Mr. Blaney. After NASCAR’s 22nd race at Pocono, Jeff Burton finished in 9th place while Dave Blaney did not even compete (his first race he did not race in).

Mr. Burton earned a good-sized 35 points giving him a season total of 516 and placing him in 24th place overall.

Mr. Blaney’s 0 points from Pocono kept him at 303 points (213 points behind Burton) and dropped him to 32nd place.

Only fourteen more races to go, because NASCAR’s Sprint Cup series runs 36 (there’s your number for the day) races.

The results from Fontana, NASCAR’s fifth race of the season, are in and this is how the two drivers – both of whom are connected to the number 36 in one way or another – are doing.

Dave Blaney, driver of the number 36 car, finished the race on March 27 in 37th place. Having an engine go out on you probably doesn’t help things. He earned 7 points for the day giving hima season-total of 58 and placing him in 35th place in the standings.

Jeff Burton – who finished 36th at Daytona – did much better as he came in 15th place earning 29 points and giving him a season-total of 103 points. This jumped him up to 25th place overall and he extends his lead over Blaney.

Next up – Martinsville.

After the fourth race of the Sprint Cup for NASCAR, here is the update on the standings for the two drivers I am following based on their connection to the number 36.

Kurt Busch won the Jeff Byrd 500 in Bristol, Tennessee, but the driver of the number 36 car, Dave Blaney, wound up in 25th place earning 19 points for the day and giving him a total of 51 points for the season and placing him in 34th place in the standings for the young season.

However, Jeff Burton (who came in 36th at Daytona at the start of the racing season), finished Bristol in 20th place and picked up 24 points. This gives Burton 74 points for the season (extending his lead over Blaney to 23 points) and moves him up to 29th place.

See you next Sunday at Martinsville.

After the third race of the Sprint Cup for NASCAR, here is the update on the standings for the two drivers I am following based on their connection to the number 36.

For the Kobalt Tools 400 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dave Blaney – the driver of the number 36 car – came in 34th place, earning 11 points and thus giving him a total of 32 points for the young season and moving him up one spot in the standings to 35th.

However, Jeff Burton (who finished 36th at Daytona which is why I am following him this season) finished in 21st place and earned 23 points. That number gives Burton a total of 50 points and keeps him in 32nd place.

For my tracking, Burton has extended his lead over Blaney from 6 points to 18.

No race this week as Race #4 for the Sprint Cup season takes place March 20 in Bristol….just in time for Purim.

Two races down and this is where we stand with the two NASCAR drivers I am tracking courtesy of my fascination with the number thirty-six…

Dave Blaney, who drives the number 36 car, finished the race in Phoenix in 42nd place earning only two points for that race. That gives him total of 21 points and places him in 36th (wow…what a coincidence) place in the overall standings.

Jeff Burton (who finished 36th at Daytona) finished Phoenix in 26th place and earned 18 points. This gives him a total of 27 points (leading Blaney by 6) and places him in 32nd place in the overall standings.

See y’all in Sin City next race
